Queensland Greenspace Strategy
Background
As part of the Government's Towards Q2 initiative to protect 50% more land for conservation and public recreation by 2020. Cabinet recently endorsed land that is surplus to State Government Agencies and Government Owned Corporations needs should be examined for it's suitability for community Greenspace. The Cabinet decision provides opportunities to improve cross-agency coordination and better match allocation of government land to achieve the Government's priorities. The Property Management Committee (PMC) will assess submissions to allocate land to the most appropriate use of land on a whole-of-Government basis.
Criteria
The criteria to be used to evaluate the most appropriate use of land for community Greenspace is as follows:
- Proximity to riparian creeks, rivers and waterways, trails (existing) and parks
- Nature conservation value - including bio-diversity value, vegetation and bio-diversity
- Proximity to coastal areas - including coastal reserves and foreshore access
- Contribution to Greenspace Network Plans - (currently being established)
- Inter-urban breaks "Green wedges strategies"
- Scenic view points
Process
The most appropriate land use assessment, including the consideration of community Greenspace criteria will form part of a submission to PMC. Following a greenspace assessment by Government agencies/GOC's, PMC submissions should be referred to Mr SteveMacDonaldDirector, Resource and Landscape Planning
Department of Infrastructure and Planning (DIP)

steve.macdonald@dip.qld.gov.au for comment. DIP comments will then form part of the formal PMC submission. A determination of the most appropriate use of land following a whole-of-Government assessment of Government priorities including greenspace will need to be documented as part of PMC submissions.
